Thực ra chẳng có gì khó cả. Bạn đặt cây con hoạc hạt giống trong những cá thể VD sơ dừa.

Đặt các chậu cây này trong các khay, các ống. Sau đó bạn bơm nước có pha các dưỡng chất cho cây. Trong một khoảng thời gian nhất định.  Bạn rút nước rồi lại bơm theo từng chu kỳ.

Như vậy cây sẽ nhanh lớn hơn. Cung cấp đúng dưỡng chất cây cần và không bị hao phí như trồng ngoài đất. Cũng như bạn có thể xếp chồng từng khay lên giúp tiết kiệm diện tích đất canh tác và công sức thu hoạch

Đây là mô hình cải tiến của mô hình thủy canh. Bạn cũng cung cấp dưỡng chất cho cây nhưng không sử dụng nước pha dưỡng chất mà sử dụng chính nguồn nước nuôi cá.

Như vậy bạn ngoài trồng cây thì bạn còn kết hợp nuôi thêm hồ cá. Dưỡng chất cho cây chính là phân từ cá. Và ngược lại đây cũng là cách bạn lọc sạch hồ cá giúp nguồn nước sạch, cá sẽ nhanh lớn và ít bệnh.

Với mô hình aquaponics thì bạn cũng trồng cây trên các giá thể rơm rạ, xơ dừa, hay các hạt đất sét nung giúp cây bám vào.

Bạn bơm nước hồ cá lên và tưới cho cây, không cần tưới phun. Các giá thể hoặc rể cây sẽ hấp thụ phần phân cá và lọc nước sạch trả về lại hồ cá.

Với mô hình này bạn vừa thu được cá và rau sạch. Hiệu suất cao hơn nhiều, không phải tốn tiền mua dưỡng chất cho rau.

Cải tiến aquaponics quá trình bơm xả nước với ống xyphong. Mục đích của ống này là nó chờ cho đến lúc bơm lên đầy rồi nó tự xả nước xuống hồ cá cho đến lúc hết. Như vậy bạn sẽ tiết kiệm một phần chi phí cho máy bơm.
